Hey Utah Locals, I am looking for a specific wagon to borrow - I am hoping to find a (Radio Flyer) wagon that has seats that fold up, seat belts (I think), possibly a canopy and, if I am super lucky, cup holders and/or a little bag to hold stuff. Does anyone have or know someone who has one like this? I know it sounds specific, but we are going on a trip in Sept and I would like to borrow if for then. Anyone? Will you ask around? Please.

Today I watched a new father carry his first born baby's casket into the chapel where we honored Charlotte Joanne Nelson. She was born without a heartbeat on Tuesday. Her Grandpa gave a wonderful heartfelt talk that radiated love for his daughter, son-in-law and their little baby. Her Uncle sang a song that he had written four years earlier - there was not a dry eye in the chapel. Another Uncle read a poem he had written - also indescribable. Finally the Father spoke, I can't believe he was able to - he spoke of her and the experience, their love for her and then he spoke of Heavenly Father's love and mercy for them - it was amazing. One thing that he said that has stuck in my head (I am paraphrasing) ... "we could say 'it isn't fair' and be selfish about not having our baby girl, but really, as perfect as she was, it would be unfair to have her here - to taint her perfection." Later at the Provo cemetery, he dedicated the grave site and then we watched as, first the mom and then all of the cousins released pink balloons. A few minutes after they had been released one of the little cousins who was standing near me, turned to her mom and asked "do you think the baby got our balloons yet?" So sweet.

My heart hurts so much for them, mostly because I know how much I love my little babies and I can't even think about not having them with me, without my body wanting to explode in panic. Also because so much joy that they had anticipated has now turned to sorrow.

I am so grateful for the Savior's love, support and comfort that they are receiving at this time. I am grateful for his sacrifice and that because of that we can all look forward to holding that sweet little baby and their family can be together. I am so grateful for the gospel and today especially, the Plan of Salvation.

Okay - I did it! I gave my first talk in church in a really long time! I actually was a little proud of myself, I think it turned out really well. It was on Agency - it was a great topic for me, I learned so much and actually inspired me to do my scripture studying in a little different way. Although I stuttered through some parts and wish I would have said others that I forgot - I did it. I got a ton of compliments, so thank you to all of those who said such nice things. I am so relieved it is over! Now for another few years until the next talk.

So this Sunday I am speaking in church. It has been a really long time since I have spoken in church. We have been in this ward for over 6 years and it is my first here. I won't tell you how long before then. Can you say "sabbatical?" :)

I borrowed a whole shelf of Sherrie's books and have too much info to process, let alone talk about. I do think I need to read more - I have loved studying this.

I am basically done and want someone to look it over for me and tell me what they think... not Jared. I don't take "constructive criticism" from him very well. I think I'll call Sher or Heidi, they can help me work out the kinks without making me feel stupid. Wish me luck!

PS: If you want to see a historical event, like my talk, church is a 1. But get there early because the paparazzi are going to be crazy!

First Day of Disney!

I can't believe it ... we have been talking and planning this trip for about a year. Saving, scheduling, waiting and now we are here. We left for Disneyland Friday afternoon - late afternoon and got to Jill's house in St George that night. After a quick visit we were on our way.

This was the first problem, because our kids didn't want to leave their cousins - they absolutely love them. Amber is the oldest and takes care of their every need - she plays games with them and reads them books. Ashlyn is Emma's BFF and she adores her. Cute little Ky Ky (who turned 4 the day before we got there!) loves to play dress up, which happens to be Emma's fav thing to do as well - plus her and Car became little buddies - it was so cute! Then there is Kate, who is just a month older then Harry, but is running all over the place - he and her were very aware of each other - no major play dates, but they kept an eye on each other incase the other had a toy that looked fun.

But we had to go, so on top of leaving their buddies, we have found that OUR KIDS DO NOT LIKE THE CAR. I am pretty sure even if it takes us longer to save for our next family vaca.... we will be flying.

But after a way longer trip then google told us, we are in our 1st hotel and the kids are still asleep. I am so excited I have been up since 6... oh yeah and also that is when Carson climbed into our bed and started trying to cuddle so close he ended up boring himself underneath me. So at this moment I am sitting in the bathroom (not using the bathroom - let me be clear on that) waiting to hear them wake up.

Last minute we decided to get here a day early, so we stayed in this hotel tonight and will check into our planned hotel this afternoon. So hence our "1st hotel".

My sister is here already with her family, then later today my brother and his wife and my parents will arrive. How fun! We are missing one sister and 2 brothers that couldn't come - but at least we have our little group.

My Dad's 70th birthday is tomorrow and what a better way to celebrate then in the "Happiest Place on Earth", right?

Well just an update - I will try to keep you up on our daily comings and goings - but our laptop doesn't have a memory card place so I will have to show off the pics later.

AAAAHHHHHHH - wake up kids - I can't wait!!! Forget it, I'm going to wake them up!

The Divine Calling of Motherhood

The last couple of days have been long, hard and patient-trying. I love my kids, but sometimes I feel like I am under a huge pile of professional football players all jumping on top of the pile and I have no chance of getting up. With housework and keeping up with 3 little ones and then add in canning peaches and pears before they go bad and getting ready to leave for Disneyland... I am feeling a little overwhelmed. That makes me a little short of patients and more stressed then I want to be.

Just in the perfect time of need, my sweet mother-in-law sent this to me... it was exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks T and Elder Holland for reminding me why my life is amazing - even when it feels crazy.

Super (Crazy) Saturday

Today started before yesterday even ended.
Got home way after everyone was asleep
and I don't think I actually fell asleep before having my alarm go off in the middle of the night
to run my next errand.
Got home from that just in time for the baby to wake up
and the morning started from there.
But guess what -
"I CAN DO HARD THINGS"!
Even crazy busy days.

Last minute all-nighter to make sure everything turn out great - worked like a charm,
My friends made it to the airport in time and are on their way to Cancun,
My Bountiful Basket is full of Super Yumminess,
Emma's Soccer game ended in a tie,
Super Saturday went off perfectly,
I even finished some of my own projects,
Finally home and everyone is napping, so I might even get to shower!!!

All in all, it has been a good day.

I do owe Jared a HUGE thanks for doing everything I couldn't, including watching the kids all day
and
An even bigger I'm sorry for not being patient with him while running around crazy this morning,
after an all-nighter. It's a good thing he already agreed to the "Time and All Eternity" part, or he would have kicked me to the curb along time ago. :)

I can't believe he is already a year old! I really love this little guy - he is so dang cute. He loves his family. Carson and he are already best friends, Emma is his little helper and is at his call at a moments notice. Tyson is his clown and can make him laugh anytime or anywhere. We love his little smile and his adventurous personality. Happy Birthday Little Guy!

As many of you are aware, Cami J. (Corey & Carols) daughter recently had her apartment broken into and literally "every earthly possession of value that she owned was stolen, except her scriptures". Her handmade violin was stolen, her guitar, the laptop that she had saved up over a long period of time to buy was stolen, along with many other items that were very special to her.

We feel such a desire to do something to help. After the awesome lesson on Service yesterday encouraging us to "be observant" and help, we keep thinking about the Good Samaritan story and how the Priest and Levite just walked by. Our desire is to stop and help.

So, we are having a bake sale of Marie Callender's Pies! If you would like to order a pie (see list of 25 varieties below), you may purchase each pie for a minimum of $15.00, and all proceeds will go to Cami. Of course larger donations are also appreciated and you do not have to buy a pie to donate :). There are 2 days left of the Marie Callender's Pie sale, SO YOUR ORDER MUST BE IN BY 9pm ON TUESDAY EVENING. Email Michele at lewismichele@mac.com, or Julie at jwsessions@comcast.net. Emma makes me laugh!

Today I had to pick something up at Kmart. I have never taken the kids to Kmart - not that I have anything against it, but it is farther away then other stores and I have never had a need for it. Anyway, when we pulled in the parking lot Emma asked me "Mom, what is this place?" I told her "This is Kmart." Without missing a beat and rather matter-of-fact she says "There's smart and then there's Kmart smart." I could have lost a lung from laughing so hard.

Then the other day Jared and she were driving somewhere and he pulled into a parking lot that had a Subway in it... immediately she starts sing - 5, 5 dollar foot long. Just out of the blue funny!

I know what you think... too much tv... probably. But what can I say, she listens and has the memory of an elephant (really we have said that since I can remember). She just keeps me laughing, I love it!

Lucky Number 7

Today is our seven year anniversary. I can't believe how much we have done in seven years and how much has changed. I really can't imagine life without him. As much as sometimes I want to explode, I know he is the only one that will help put me back together. He gets my sarcasm and doesn't mind my zaniness or when I get in way over my head... he just rolls his eyes and knows - it's me. He know each of my buttons and knows how to help me laugh it off when they get pushed. We are never going to be the cuddly couple in the movies or the ones who gush all over each other in public - we are never going to be the super posh yuppies who have everything we want (I don't even know if we would know how, if we had the option) - but we have our little family and at the end of the day I am so glad I can shut all the doors, hide my cell phone, turn off all the lights and lock the world out - but he will still be right there. Sleep Training Again

Today I spent the afternoon rearranging the cribs and beds to where I wanted them. I took one of the cribs apart that was in Carson's room, put it back together in Emma's room for Harrison, moved Emma's bed into Carson's room, took the other crib that was in Carson's room and replaced a part that had been broken - which meant taking it apart and putting back together again. Long story short - Emma and Carson are now roommates and Harrison is in Emma's room for a while. Once he is a better sleeper I think I will move him in with Carson, but for now he is on his own.

So far Emma and Carson are doing okay. They were both so excited to be with each other for bed time. They went to bed with no problems or stalling - just like a normal night. Maybe beginners luck... we'll see.

The biggest reason we wanted Harrison in his own room was for "sleep training". Tonight we are going to let him cry. I do go in after 5 minutes - I just try to calm - I don't pick up and I don't stay for more then a minute. Then after a couple 5 minute rounds I wait 10 minutes, then after a few 10 minute rounds I wait 15 - I have never gone longer then 15 minutes and I really don't plan to tonight. He is a stubborn baby - I think tonight is going to be rough.

The first night we sleep trained Emma was forever - she was older like Harrison and equally stubborn. She took about 5-7 days - the first 2 nights were awful and then it got easier from there. Carson we did at 4 months - it was hard because he was so little, but it went quick - only 1 hard night and 2 other mildly rough nights. It sucks to hear them so sad, but I need him to sleep better - we will all be happier when he is a better sleeper.

Oh Harrison, go to sleep little buddy - I know in the long run it is so much better to do this and have him be a good sleeper - I know we did this with the others and they are about the best sleeper I could ever ask for - I know he is not hurt and he is okay - I know all that.. but this really sucks.

Okay I need everyone's input...

Here we go - JUNE 29TH MIDNIGHT SHOW!!!

I have the midnight theater for Eclipse already reserved - but I want to find the best way of doing this. Last time was a little stressful and I would like to minimize the stress for me that night. But some things have changed and so help me out... PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS - I HATE MAKING DECISIONS LIKE THIS ON MY OWN!

The ticket prices have gone up $1.50 and on top of that if I do general seating then it is an extra $1. With the theater rental I have to purchase I "package deal" like popcorn and drink. But if we do everything it starts to add up. I will be doing the raffle before so for no extra charge you could win things like a massage, a teeth whitening, a haircut, jewelry... keep that in mind also.

I do have to worry about how hard it is to sell the first 2 rows and also how annoying it is to take reserved seating requests. I know that doesn't bug any of you... but I am the one who gets stuck with it, so try to be empathetic.

I know the following descriptions make me sound grumpy (for those of you who really know me, you know - that is partially true :) ) But last time was not at all what I thought it would be and I would like to see if I can make it more fun for everyone. So I need to cover all the bases.

So here are some options.

General Seating, popcorn, drink - ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS TO THE HOST ALLOWED - this would mean where you end up is all on you. This would be 16.50 per ticket.

General seating, popcorn and drink - BUT not sell the front 2 rows so everyone is happy and you don't have to worry about getting stuck up front - this could be done for 19.50 per ticket.

Reserved Seating, popcorn and drink - BUT not sell the front 2 rows so everyone is happy and you don't have to worry about getting stuck up front - this could be done for 18.50 per ticket. But no seat requests... You would get a ticket with your seat number and I would put all of your group together (as long as they were purchased together), but I would not take seat requests - you will be in the top portion with your group... no "third row, two seats in please", because doing that for the whole theater gets old quick

Reserved Seating, popcorn and drink with an ASTERISKS***. I would sell the front 2 rows for $10 and the back portion of the theater for $17. You would get a ticket with your seat number and I would put all of your group together (as long as they were purchased together), but I would not take seat requests - you will be in the top portion with your group... no "third row, two seats in please", because doing that for the whole theater gets old quick. This would be nice because you wouldn't have to get there early to worry about your seat.

Reserved Seating, popcorn and a drink - you pick your seat and have your seat number on the ticket. This is going to cost you... I am willing to do the work, but not for free - also I have to calculate if the front 2 rows don't sell. This option is $20 per ticket. I will say if all the tickets do sell then I will put the money into the raffle and/or have a mass refund that night... THIS DECISION I WILL MAKE ON MY OWN. This option will have a rule of no seat requests before I get the money - I will not be holding seats.

Okay tell me what you think... I need some help!

Harrison has RSV - poor kid has a cough like a chain smoker. The doctor says to watch for dehydration and increased difficulty breathing... so far so good, but I hate seeing him uncomfortable. All 3 of the kids started with runny noses Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, light cough Wednesday, moderate coughs Wednesday night, Thursday group doctors visit. Emma and Carson are dealing fine and have learned to run when I come towards them with a tissue... it is now a game - "tissue chase" we all love it (heavy sarcasm there). But baby isn't big enough to deal as well. The doctor gave us some instructions and ordered a breathing treatment and "suction" at the hospital if tonight doesn't go well. Thankfully his Dad and Uncles were here to give him a blessing. Hopefully we won't need the extra treatment.

I know that I am not as young and hip as I used to be - but I still know amazing bands and wicked crazy talent when I see it! But to tell you the truth even the lamest of the lame would still think these guys are amazing! And guess what - they are local!!! The bearded bass player is not only uber-talented, he is also my neighbor and friend. So if you love them as much as I do, check them out next time they play - I added their next few show dates. Welcome Home Uncle Tyson

Jared' s brother Tyson arrived home yesterday from his mission in Chile. He actually left Chile a couple weeks ago and flew to Russia to visit with his parents who are serving as mission presidents over there.

Before he got home - Emma, knowing he went to Russia before coming to Utah, told me how she was excited for Tyson to get home - but really excited for Grandma T to come home too. Thinking Tyson was bringing T with him. I had to explain Grandma T had to stay in Russia, because her mission wasn't over... this was a little sad discovery for her - but after a few minutes was okay. Lucky we have Skype or I am pretty sure Emma would have jumped a plane to Russia as soon as we got to the airport.

He has been home less then 24 hours and has already had In-and-Out and Del Taco, and is already planning for where he will eat next... my kinda of guy!

When he came down the escalator he was wearing a Russia fur hat and we all started laughing immediately - it was perfect. Unfortunately the picture isn't very good - sorry!

That day the kids and I made signs for his arrival - mainly me, but they liked coloring on the back of them. :)

Emma remembered him very well and was so excited to see him, she ran right up to him as soon as he hit the floor and gave him a big hug. Carson, watching what Emma was doing, ran right along with her and hugged him too - which is a rare thing to happen to "strangers". He even gave a few smiles and they are already great buds! Harrison was very excited to introduce himself and was a happy baby - until he got hungry in the car, then he didn't care who Uncle Tyson was. :)

That night Emma made special note in her prayer to welcome him home and say thanks for his safe arrival - then (in her prayer) gave a detailed explanation of how Tyson is home, but Grandma T and Big Grandpa did not come home with him and how they are still in "The Russia" on their mission. Then began to ask for them to come home tomorrow ... this may take a while to explain - how can she understand 2 years more? Funny and cute at the same time.

Welcome Home Tyson, we have looked forward to you getting home for 2 years and we are so excited to have you back!

PS: for all of my local friends - I think my husband has relocated into his parents house for the next week or so... so if you want to play, hang out, go shopping, have late night Twilight watching nights... I am pretty much husbandless until Tyson starts school (at least). :)

My Yearly Allotment

I have an addiction to Hickory Farm's Summer Sausage. I could seriously eat it in unhealthy portions. I love it!

Jared however, does not love it. He is pretty sure it is the most unhealthy thing ever, he hates the smell and thinks it is gross that I take chunks of meat and gnaw on it.

So I have to limit my addiction to Christmas time. Every Christmas, since we were married, that has been one of my gifts. I look forward to it every year - my mouth waters when when walk by the kiosk in the mall and I know it is coming.

I did get extra lucky this year and got some as a gift from my good friend Heidi - who knows all about my addiction and my yearly stipend. :)

So next year, when you are thinking about what to get me - now you know... but make sure to sneak it past Jared... because if I get too much from others it may change how much he gets me! hahaha!

Preschool!!!

Emma recently started preschool! My good friend Reva called randomly and said her twin boys (2 of Emma's closest friends) were starting preschool. She had heard of a few recent openings at the AF High School Preschool, where the high school students have a class about preschool education and then take turns teaching the kids the lesson. There is a teacher there at all times and is wonderful, her name is Ms. Megan and she looks like she is 12, but is super nice and very caring about the kids and their "early education." Anyway, we took the openings and are happy with our decision already!

I have to say I was almost emotional when I took her the first morning. She looked so cute and so big! I can't believe my little girl was walking off to preschool. I was so proud of her. I waited until they were all inside before I left, I couldn't stop watching her. Then while she was gone I found myself waiting for the time to pick her up. It is so fun hearing about what she has learned, who she played with - everything. I love watching her grow up - she is the best!

She absolutely loves it. She loves her new friends and having the Andrew and Anthony there also. She loves learning new things and showing me all of the crafts she has done. What a fun new phase of life!

Birthday Bash!

November is a big month for our house. Emma's birthday is Nov. 19th and Carson's birthday is Nov. 16th. We had a week of presents, cake and parties. It was a lot of fun but we will definitely need a full year to recover.

Tuesday was their birthday party - we had a Royal Birthday party. The invitations were in scroll form and Emma and Carson delivered them in their Royal costumes. The guests wore Royal attire. We had a balloon arch at the door and Conner one of our super awesome neighbors dressed up as a Court Jester and as the guests arrived he announced them as Princess (and their name) or Prince (and their name). We did a Royal Memory game - which is Emma's favorite game. Played "put the kiss on the frog" - which was a cute drawing of a frog that Uncle Eric drew for the Bash. Ran around and tired to find the lost Royal treasure and get in back in the treasure chest before the King noticed that it was gone. Then we opened gifts and had cake.

THE CAKE!!! Sherrie, one of my closest friends and Emma's favorite mom supplied the cake. Her mom is a professional cake creator and did the most amazing castle cake for us! It truely was the best present ever!

After cake we had a Royal Ball and turned on the music and let the kids run wild until their parents arrived. It was a crazy hour and a half but it turned out so fun!

I have to give special thanks to ... Sherrie - who really is the kid's second mom, who helped me plan, set up, get through, clean up and everything in between. She is the greatest friend anyone could ask for! Liz - who doesn't ever need to be asked. She did the things I needed done, before I knew I needed them done. She held Harrison the entire time and really helped me get through the day. Eric for being an artist. Conner for being such a great Jester. All the parents who stayed. Jared for letting me go overboard and even helping in the end.

I love my kids and love making little memories like this day with them.

Harrison is getting so dang cute. He is getting much bigger and is already such a talker! He talks more then Carson already! He is sleeping better and eats better well. We haven't gotten him sleeping through the night steady yet. He will go about 7 hours and tease me as though he can do it and then the next night not sleep at all. It is a really fun game we play! I don't have any complaints though - he is still little enough that I put up with whatever because he is so cute and hasn't learned how to talk back. I love him though - he is a great mixture of Carson's good looks and Emma's spicy personality. He is a cuddle bug and a loves to be with people and I love being with him!

Emma's First Sleepover

Jared have a little rule, we haven't had to put into affect yet. We are not fans of sleepovers. We kind of think now-a-days a late night with friends over is fine, but sleep overs are not for us (or our kids). We are not sure if we are against friends sleeping here, that is still under debate, but sleeping out just isn't going to happen. Different I know, but just something we feel comfortable with. There is one exception - family.

So Emma's cousin Ashlyn got to sleep over last month. Ashlyn is absolutely the sweetest little girl and I loved having here. We had a great time, we went to the Dinosaur Museum, ice creams at the Thanksgiving Point Malt Shop, and then headed home for princess movies and popcorn. They finally made it to bed and even slept great. We had pancakes in the morning and my brother-in-law Stan came and got her so they could drive home (they live in St. George). Emma loved hanging out with Ash, Carson liked having another friend to play with and I loved listening to them giggle themselves to sleep.

Canning

I was going through my pictures and realized I haven't blogged in a really time! Sorry.

I have been canning. I am actually done, but I spent a lot of time the in Sept and Oct canning. I did salsa, spaghetti sauce, apple sauce, peaches, pears and lots and lots of freezer jam.

My parents were here for one of my "adventures" and we stayed up until after midnight doing applesauce (because we thought it would be easier after the kids went to bed). Lucky them. We had a good time though and now I have a few shelves full of jars to show for it.

Nursery

When Emma turned 18 months she walked into nursery like she owned the place, she didn't really have trouble with me leaving at all. If anything, it was me not wanting to leave her.

Carson on the other hand wants NOTHING to do with nursery on his own. In the beginning anytime we came near the nursery room he would cry and shake his head, saying NO, NO NO the whole way. Then we got to a point where he would go in and play, but stay close. The only times I have tried to leave, he throws a fit. I will say our church time is during his nap, so we often chalk it up to super tired and take him home.

TODAY WE MADE A BREAK THROUGH!!!

We went in and I stayed with him for the first 20 minutes or so, then I made my move... but don't worry I came prepared! So, I know he should be getting over this, but soothies are for when kids need to be soothed... before I made my move I gave the nursery leaders Carson's Binky and Taggie, so if he freaked out he would have the two things I have been training him to calm down with. IT WORKED!!! I left, I heard him cry a minute later and then it stopped. I waited and nothing. I nearly had an anxiety attack, but the crying was gone. My two good friends Heidi and Cindy were in the hall and nearly had to drag me away from just listening for him the rest of church. But I left and they didn't come for me. In fact one of the other moms were called out and I made eye contact with the Nursery leader and she gave me a big smile and thumbs up! I got to go to most of Sunday School and all of Relief Society - it was awesome! When we came to go get him, he was happy and excited! Then just like clock work he fell right to sleep without a fuss, like it was his normal time. What a great day!

I really hope it wasn't just a fluke and that we will continue to make progress. With Jared having to be in Priesthood with his calling, I was missing Relief Society way more then I could handle! Today was great!

In and Out is Coming!!!

This post is in response to another I read that said they didn't understand the hype around In-and-Out, giving it an "overrated" feel, here is my response - you may not like it, so read on if you have thick skin, if not - X out, grow some thick skin and log back on. PS: This is not just the testimony of a post baby fat girl, I have loved In-and-Out through thick and thin... literally!

First of all, I think some people who grow up in certain states, have prejudice of other states. Like people from Texas - don't mess with Texas. East Coast v. West Coast. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas - because people in other states don't deserve to know. Well, people from California (which I am) have strong feelings about how rocking California is. But I think when you live in Utah (an amazing state, which I love) and have so many transplants - you get sick of hearing how cool other places are (a little jealous maybe, maybe not) and tend to cold shoulder anything that is associated. I can understand, but please don't give this treatment to In-and-Out, this is a universal thing, we can all love. It is like world peace, except someday we all might get some of In-and-Out... even Utah, because we are now getting 3!!! I am so excited I could scream.

(SIDE NOTE: I personally think it is in response to Chadders (Chadders - you messed with the wrong Burger joint, did you think you were just doing a knock off Burger King - WRONG), so instead of In-and-Out suing, they did the better thing - revenge... strategically placing In-and-Outs in AF, Provo and past the point... bye-bye Chadders.)

But before you wrongfully judge In-and-Out, I have a few things for you to consider on why they are the best all around place to get an AMAZING burger...

They are fresh, not processed, you can watch them make the patties or the fries right from potatoes from the counter, as you wait for you delicious food.

They are family owned, you have to love that, they don't just franchise to any dork who want s to make a quick buck, the owners really care for the business, it isn't just money, it is a family project.

They are religious, which you have to respect, they have John 3:16 on the bottom of the drink cups - I like that.

They respect their employees and aren't cheap with them, they pay well starting and give raises often, with benefits, education incentives, spiffs and promotional incentives, they treat their employees as well as some big companies, if not better.

They are simple - they don't pretend to care about Chicken sandwiches or salads. They do what they love and are great at - MEAT!!!

They make it fun with little inside things for In-and-Out lovers, like off the menu ordering... animal style, triple triples and other little goodies.

Plus, where can you get a better burger, fries and a shake, really? I would love to know - and then tell me how much it was, because In-and-Out is less then most fast food places and is totally not in the "fast food" category.

So next time you hear someone talking about In-and-Out, don't immediately think "overrated", consider all the above points and just think "awesome"!

Couponing

One of the things I have been doing lately is couponing. I know this is a little silly, but since I am a stay at home Mom now I feel like not only am I am Mom but I have a job as to take care of the house and budget, so if I have the time, why not save some money on our grocery bill right? Plus if I gave you a dollar bill, you wouldn't throw it away would you? Well coupons are like cash to the grocery store, so why would I throw it away? I know I made fun of me too before I started doing it... but if anyone is interested and has any questions feel free to ask and maybe I can help you out. It really isn't very hard, just a little intimidating at first.

It is kind of a thing around here, I am sure it might be big other places, but I just caught on to it in the last couple months. I get 5 Sunday papers every week and 1 Thursday paper, I use a heavy duty binder to keep them uber-organized, that way I get multiple of every coupon and can stock up when super deals come up. It is not as hard as I thought it was going to be and I have really started to like it. It is kind of a fun challenge to see what kind of deals I can get. I use www.savvyshopperdeals.com, she is amazing! Her food storage pantry is seriously crazy!

This week I stocked up on pasta - I got Whole Wheat and Smart Taste pasta for .20 a box (regularly 2.39 a box) - all of the pasta in the photo cost me $4 and tax! The other photo came to $34 or 36 (I can't remember), but I had a savings card from picking up a prescription at that grocery store so I only paid $10 out of pocket! I have also stocked up on things like cereal (not just the kids stuff, but stuff we eat, like Cinnamon Life for .40 a box or Special K with strawberries for .50 a box), Pop Tarts 12 count .40 a box, Quaker Granola Bars .40 a box, Tony's Freezer Pizzas for .28 a pizza, big tubs of Quaker instant oatmeal, syrup and the list really could go on. The most important thing is that I am making sure we are eating it, not just storing it. The kids like the variety and I like buying when stuff is on sale and not when I need it.

Emma's Busy Life

Emma has been a busy girl lately. Along with becoming a big sister of 2, play dates and random craziness she has took 2 sessions of swimming lessons over the summer and an All Ball class last month. Also over the summer our ward's Primary took a trip to the Temple where they visited the Temple grounds, had a wonderful lesson about Temples, a great picnic and even their picture taken (which I expect to see in some up coming Primary craft). I also added a picture in of a recent haircut - I hate having her hair cut, because we always lose a little more curl, but it has to be done, she is so cute and really adds some spunk to all of our lives.

Hogle Zoo

Recently I took the kids to the zoo. It was with a group of girls in my ward, we had a lot of kids with us and were totally out numbered, but we had a ton of fun! We watched the bird show, which was amazing, the bird fly so close over the audience, it was a little scary (hence Carson having his binky and keeping a good eye on the eagle), luckily Harrison stayed tucked close to me, he was small enough to be a meal for some of those huge birds. We also saw all of the fun new additions to the Zoo, they have a baby elephant, a baby giraffe, a baby snow leopard and 3 baby tigers, the kids were so excited!

Emma's New Dress

I have been sewing a little lately. My sister-in-law Liz is my crafty mentor and was telling me about these cute "pillow case" dresses and so I thought it would be fun to give it a try. It isn't perfect and Emma wasn't a big fan at first, but it was my first actual "wearable" project I have tried to sew and Emma gave it a chance and now asks to wear it every Sunday.
One thing I will say about sewing is that it isn't the cheap way to make clothes any more. When we were kids making our clothes was the inexpensive way to have clothes (although not the coolest). Now-a-days with Walmart and Target, you can't even make things that inexpensive. As for quality - the shirt and shorts I get at Target for 2.50 a piece have lasted past all the wear, tear and stains my kids put on them and that is saying something! BUT, I do think sewing is a dying art, I don't know if I will ever need to know how to make all of my kids clothes, but I do think sewing might be making a come back.

Beethoven Beat Me!

A few weeks ago I ran a 5k. It was called The Beat Beethoven 5k and the goal was 32 minutes, which is the aprox time of Beethoven's 5th. I made it 36 minutes, I was a little disappointed, but maybe next year. I will say that it was my own fault - I hadn't really been training as hard as I should have, in fact I was only running 2 miles at a time and that 3 miles was probably the first 3 miles I have run in about 2 years! Haha, I suck, but at least I did it and for a mom of 3, including a 6 weeks old (at the time) I can't complain.

I know I look like a super geek in the photo, but there wasn't a beauty contest before hand, so I figured I was safe with what I was wearing. :) Anyway, I went by myself to the race because it started kind of early, the kids met me at the finish line and it was so cute to see Emma and Carson cheering me on (along with Jared of course). One funny "Mom moment" was that I had to head somewhere right after and was on a tight schedule, so about 5 minutes after finishing I was in the car nursing before heading off to the next thing. It was funny simply because life can be going a mile a minute, but when your baby says he's hungry there isn't anything that can stand in his way, not even Beethoven's 5th.

Piano Lessons

I started taking piano lessons recently, just for about 2 months. My super nice girlfriend and neighbor Cindy is teaching me and I have had so much fun so far. I am just starting out, but already I am learning so much and can play simple songs. I really love to play already.

I have always wanted to learn to play and even took lessons for a short while from Jared's mom, who is a phenomenal pianist to day the least. But as more babies came and schedules got busier it was easy to put it off or just go over and visit instead of actually doing a lesson. Not to mention at the time the only piano I had was a small keyboard that she had lent me. But when they left for Russia on their mission our "early inheritance" came - an amazing electric piano. So no reason not to take a advantage of this great gift!

One of my most favorite things about Jared's parents house is there beautiful grand piano in the front room, not only how it looks, but also I love entering their house and hearing Teri playing. I love the way the music makes the house feel. I want my house to feel that way, I want the kids to be at the table doing their homework and me playing in the background - I know it sounds sappy, but I really loved the calming presence of her playing (I miss her music) and I want to do that for my kids.

Harrison's Blessing Day

Harrison was blessed today at church. My mom and dad came up from Arizona, Jill and Stan and their girls and Eric and Liz and their kids all attended. It was real nice. Afterwards Jared bbq'd hamburgers and I deep fat fried homemade french fries (it's no wonder we could all stand to lose a few pounds!) That said, please pour me up another Dr. Pepper!

Two Month Update

Today Harrison had his 2 month check up - he was very good and only cried a little with his shots. He did however freak out when I undressed him and put him on the scale, he hates to be naked and not snuggled.

His stats are:
Height: 22 1/4 inches (25th percentile)
Weight: 10 lbs, 8 oz (25th percentile)
Head: 38 cm (10th percentile)

So he is on the smaller side, but he is growing.

He is a nice baby, still a little colicky but he is getting better. He is smiling now and loves to play with anyone who will play with him. He sleeps pretty well, he only wakes up once to eat around 4 - so if I go to bed at a normal hour, I can sleep well before waking up with him, which is nice.

We are definitely in love with this new addition!

AHHHH!!! I can't wait!

For those of you who don't know I have rented a theater on the opening day - it is the night if the opening (not midnight - the night before). If anyone wants a ticket, let me know... they are $15 and that includes ticket, drink and popcorn or treat. If anyone is willing to sit in the front 2 rows they are discounted. It is at th Thanksgiving Point theater, which is stadium and it will be reserved seating, so you don't have to wait in line.

New Sleeping Arrangments

Harrison is colic-y, he is super cute and wonderful, but his favorite thing to do at night especially, is cry. Today Jared was talking to one of the assistants he works with and she suggested putting him on the dryer!!! Apparently the noise, vibration and even the warmth help them calm down. I am not kidding - he went from crazy upset to deep sleep in seconds - and I am getting laundry done!!!

So guess where Harrison is going to hang out at night from now on... not screaming in my ear!

Don't worry, I am not going to leave him there all night, just long enough - to make sure he is really asleep. :)

Here is the situation that warrants the title...

I am having a "after-baby-female-issue", so yesterday I called the nurse at my OB's office and she suggested I come in and pee in a cup to take a culture (if this is TMI, then stop reading, it gets worse and my pride is already out the window, so you judging this entry is not going to help). So because I am only peeing in a cup and leaving I drag the kids with me - who wants to get a babysitter for a 1 minute apt, right? WRONG!!!

I tell the nurse what is going on exactly and she says she wants the doctor to take a look, awesome! So first I going into the "family sized" bathroom with all 3 of the children and pee in a cup, mean while Harrison starts to cry (because that is his favorite hobby), Carson starts opening the doors under the sink and trying to get to the trash can (because he thinks that is his private collection of playthings) and Emma is asking me why I am peeing in a cup - the fun has just begun!

They take me into an exam room and tell me it will only be a few minutes wait, which in normal world would be fine, but in my situation 30 seconds wait is too long. So I try to get a handle on my situation... I put Emma on a chair with a book - she is settled, I get Harrison out of his carseat and nurse him - he is quiet, and I hid the trash can and secure all cabinets from Carson - safe. We spend our wait time trying to entertain... singing, playing little games, ANYTHING. So then the doctor walks in. Emma stays in her seat, but Carson has been playing with the doctors rolling chair and isn't about to give it up, thankfully Emma helps him into her chair. All this time I am still nursing right in front of the doctor - because really, what is the point now? We talk for a second and then he has me lay back to take a look at my "girl area" - at this time Carson is highly interested in what he is doing and climbs off his seat to stand right next to the doctor the whole time.

So let's recap - Harrison nursing, Carson checking me out with the doctor and Emma about 2 feet from my head. I seriously felt like a huge joke was being played, like at anytime a camera was going to come out and tell me I was on a TV show or something... really - ANYTIME NOW!!!

This is what has happened to my privacy - they walk into the bathroom during showers and bathroom trips, they watch me nurse and pump and now this... I am pretty sure it could not get any worse.

This is being a Mom - it is good thing there are babysitters (Paige, Cali, Julia, Taylor - any of you, can you come over right now?!!!)

Harrison Eugene Pratt

So he finally has a name... Harrison Eugene Pratt. Harrison is actually the name I wanted to name Carson, but when Carson came out he didn't look like a "Harrison" to me, so he became Carson. It took us forever to finalize Harrison as his name, we actually took him home and tried different names out, Harrison fit him nicely. Eugene, his middle name, is my father's name and we have planned on using that for him since he was born.

He is a very sweet baby - he is so soft and cuddly. I will say - HE LOVES TO BE HELD!!! This sound cute, but this is a little hard with 2 other "crazies" running around needing attention too. But as with everything, we will find a way to make it work.

I am not complaining, I am simply reporting... I think he may be colic-y. He gets pretty "upset" every night around the same time. On Monday we took him to his 2 week apt and the doctor gave us some medicine to help relax his stomach muscles at those time and it really has worked, he isn't getting upset as much and does not spend his evening screaming in my ear. We have been using the medicine for 2 nights now, so wish us luck for it to continue.

He sleeps well during the night - he has even gone a 7-8 hour time, more then once. But he still has nights where he is up every 3 hours, so nothing is consistent - and I don't really expect it to be... he is ONLY 3 weeks old!

His siblings are taking to him very well. Emma would snuggle and kiss him until his air is gone if we let her. I spend a lot of my day telling her to give him some space or to leave him alone while he is sleeping. Overall though she is an amazing helper - getting all the diapers, wipes, throwing them away, getting his binky and helping to comfort him when he needs it. She really has been more then amazing - I love that little girl! Carson on the other hand has taken his time getting to know the new addition to our family. The first day in the hospital he pointed with a grunt and then the next week he completely ignored him and anyone who was holding him. One day Jared tried to get him to give him a kiss and ended up chasing Carson around the house with the baby - it was really funny. He is getting over it though nicely - he gives him kisses and rubs his face so sweet. He even will run and get his binky if he gets upset. I think they will all grow up to like each other eventually - right?! :)

We are really excited to see how the next few months unfold - he is a sweet, beautiful baby and we are already so much in love with him.

Thanks to everyone for all of the amazing love you have showed us with thoughts, prayers, meals and even gifts - we are so gratful. At this point we really feel like we don't need anything else, but we would love visitors - come on over and see him!

I know I haven't blogged in a while, my family won't stop reminding me that they want pictures of Harrison, I know I need to catch up and I will try - but it is hard keeping up with anything right now... so be patient!

He is Here!!!

He is here and he is super cute!!!

I was scheduled to come in at 6:30 this morning, but at 6 when I called to check in (like they told me to) they said they were full and to hold off. They called me back soon after and I was told to come in. We arrived at around 7:15 and was hooked up and ready for business by 7:30. At 8 am they started my IV with antibiotics , because of the strep B test and told me I would need that in my system for 4 hours, but they started the Pitocin along with it so I could progress while the antibiotic was working. The pitocin is NO JOKE! I was have contractions every 3-5 minutes and strong! I got my epidural around 11 ish and took a little nap. They checked me at noon and I was between a 4-5. So the doctor broke my water at 12:30 and guessed I would deliver around 3:30. Within a few minutes my contractions were every 2-3 minutes and the nurse came into to see how everything was progressing. At that point I was at 6mm. After that one of the nurses came in to ask a few questions, I told her I could feel my contractions and they were quite strong - she checked again and said I was already at a 9 - within a matter of 15 minutes! She started getting things ready and told me she had to grab the "cart" and she would be right back, but if I felt any pressure in my lower back to page the nurse because it might be the baby. No more then about 15 seconds after she left I felt a strong pressure in my lower back and told Jared I thought we needed to page her back, he laughed and said "she just shut the door" so I pushed the button, she came back in and I told her, she checked and the baby's head was crowned. Luckily they had already called the doctor and he was walking in, she let him know and he quickly got things ready. As soon as I was in the right position they waited for a good contraction and told me to push, out came his head! Next contraction they had me push again and there he was - seriously it was TOO easy! He is so cute! He has TONS of hair and chubby checks, he reminds me of Emma when she was born. He weighs 8lb, 3 oz (just a ounce shy of what both Emma and Carson weighed when they were born), he is 20 inches long and just so perfect! He is nursing like a champ already and so we think he is surely in the right family because he loves to eat!

We are so grateful he is here and everyone is doing fine! We love you all and will let you know as so as he has a name!

The Cast is Off!!!

Today it has been 4 weeks since Carson got his cast on. We returned to Primary Children's for a follow up xray and removal of the cast. Carson did not like the xray, or anyone in scrubs, or anyone who looked at his leg up close... it was a lot of fun! After the doctor reviewed the xray that showed 2 healed up bones the nurses took the cast off. His reaction is so funny sometimes. First he simply hid his face (his universal defense mechanism), then he watched behind his arm as they removed it, not really bugged at all (Emma was more upset by the "saw" then anyone). But, when they actually took the cast away from his leg he got so upset. He cried and tried to wiggle away from them. The nurse (who had 2 students with her) laughed and told all of us that his reaction was the opposite of most kids reaction - they usually wiggle and cry with the "saw" and like the cast coming off. After it was completely removed they handed it to him and he actually tried to put it back on, like he does when we take his socks or shoes off - it was really funny.

The doctor did say he would probably walk funny for up to a month, but that was totally normal. After that, there are no long term problems to worry about. His leg is dry, but after a little lotion he will be good as new!

Yeah, no more dead weight, no more extra 5 pounds to carry around and no more using his cast as a weapon - just in time, incase you can't see in the picture (which would tell me you can't see at all), I am HUGE - this baby needs out soon!

Fourth of July

The 4th of July, was not only a fun day with parades, food and fireworks - it was also kind of the "last ho-rah" with Jared's family, or at least the ones who were still here. We have had all of his siblings here for the last few weeks for a last get together before his parents left as Mission Presidents to Russia (I still need to blog about this). Steve was the last to leave, he left on the 5th and so we used the 4th to celebrate "all together" also.

Jared and Eric got up early that morning (4am) and got a great seat for the Provo Parade. It was great, not only was Steve's and Eric's family there, but so was Liz's parents and our good friends The Rasbands, they have twin boys and live across the street from us. We all had a great time.

After the parade we carried on a greasy Pratt tradition with KFC for lunch, we all went back to Pratt Central (Grandma T and Big Grandpa's house), where Eric and Liz are now living, for yummy food and fun games. After a long fun day we all split to "freshen up" and get ready for the fireworks.

Liz's family goes to the Provo Temple to steal a glance at the Stadium of Fire fireworks and the last few years we have joined them. This year we also were with Cammie's family in a big group. We had great seats to see the fireworks and tons of room for the kids to run around and play while we waited for the big show. Also great blanket space for Carson and Logan to have a cute game of catch (Carson is NOT a grass person - in case you might not know). Some dark rain clouds threatened our fun, but never really got us - we were lucky and had a great time!

Thanks for all the Fourth of July Fun everyone! Emma and Carson had the best time playing with their cousins and their Aunts and Uncles.

Swim Lessons

I know this is the second "pool" entry in a row but...

Emma started swim lessons on Monday. She was very excited about it. She did pretty well, but is not interested in putting her head under the water. I am pretty sure it has something to do with her tubes, but either way, after 2 days of her teachers trying nicely, today after class I was swimming with her and just took her under, I don't even think she knew what happened - she just looked at me like "what was that?" I think I am going to try it after or before class everyday... so if she needs therapy because of her fear of water - put it on my tab! :) I really do think this is a great way for her to get more comfortable in the water - she loves going to the pool and I love being outside playing with her in the pool - a great summertime activity!

She is a funny little girl though, here are some pictures of her with her buddies Andy and Tony, who are taking the class with her. (They took classes last year and rock the free world at going under the water). She loves her 2 teachers Missy and Heather and beams when they give her a high 5 after she does something new. So far her favorite thing is to throw the water toys in the water (a game to get them to go under) and watch as it drops. She reaches down and then waits as one of the twins get it for her - so funny! They also play "ring around the rosey" - another example of her not giving in - she DOES NOT fall down. She simply watches everyone else go under like they are fools, I have yet you capture the facial expression when they "fall down" - it is like she is disgusted with them. Funny, but a little scary - already she is so stubborn!

The AF Pool

There are a ton of great things for the kids to do in the summer time. We live in an area where you really could do something almost everyday, today we went to the American Fork Pool. Reva, my good friend and neighbor came along with her twins Andrew and Anthony, two boys that are so fun and we are certain if we still live close will be one of Emma's future boyfriends. hahaha! Sarah, a cute little neighbor girl, that is one of Emma's only girlfriends came with us too. (I am serious, we have SO MANY boys in the neighborhood, but only 2-3 little girls her age!)

The kids had a blast! They were immediately all over, running, splashing and "swimming"! Andrew and Anthony took swim lessons last year, so they were way brave with their "head dunking" while Sarah was the bravest on the blue covered slide - she continued up and down that slide a good part of the day. The BIG red slide was not something we ventured on today - 5 kids, 2 adults (one very pregnant) - maybe next time!

Carson was funny too, he saw the water and was so excited, but then he realized we were going in and clung onto me like a baby monkey - sometimes I think he is trying to climb back inside! After lunch and a little water warm up he was a little more excited, but still glued to my hip - which is fine with me, he is so dang cute! By the end he was having a great time too, even going down the little slide, with help of course. But I was glad, because Jared thought I should leave him home - but I always feel bad, leaving him and taking Emma - just because he is young doesn't mean he can't have fun too - I did take Emma when she was that young... so thanks little buddy for helping me not regret my decision! Also - Thank goodness his cast is water-proof, that makes life so much easier!

It was so relaxing to sit in the pool and visit with Reva. The kids are at a nice age, where they are happy to play on their own, so we stayed close, but were able to visit and relax ourselves. Whoever invented "kiddie pools" and "beach entrances" is a genius!

WAY BEHIND!

Yesterday Carson had a little spill. He likes to try to get in the shower with me and in his attempt to visit me the floor got wet and he slipped. He cried for a little but, we thought he may have bumped his head or just got scared. Then we noticed he was favoring that leg. He actually had sprained that leg about a month ago when I mopped the floor - taking another spill on the wet. Anyway, we decided we would "watch" it and see Monday if there has been any improvement. That afternoon we were over at Jared's parent's house and he wanted to get down and play with some toys on the floor. He took a few steps (which was really the first time since his morning accident that he had even given a try) and fell almost immediately. His cry was way more severe this time and we decided to take him to Urgent Care right away. After an xray and exam they let us know he had broken his leg - in two different places! He has a spiral fracture at the base of his Tibia and a straight fracture in the middle of the Fibula. Because of the type of fracture and the placement in the bone, they sent us to Primary Children's Hospital in SLC to meet with a Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist. After a few hours there they concluded that neither fractures were in the area of the growth plates and his healing should be straight forward. They let us know that they didn't expect any long term problems or growth issues - which were were so grateful for.

We kind of think that his Spiral fracture may have happened in the morning with the shower - because the doctor's said that is the more painful of the fractures, but only when pressure is placed on the foot (which he didn't all day). Then his fall at Grandma T's house probably is what happened to the Fibula, because I heard a pop when he fell - the Fibula is not a weight bearing bone and it was trying to do all of the work and with all the pressure plus another fall, it couldn't take it either.

Regardless, he is in a hard splint now, to let the swelling go down and watch for a few little issues that can come from his kind of breaks. Wednesday he should get his cast on and start a 5 week healing period. Until his cast is on he is supposed to be immobile - which is already bugging him.

He is doing good though and we expect to have a completely healed up little boy in time for the baby to come. Wish us luck in the next week!

The bottom photo is a teddy bear his nurse gave to him to hold on to while his splint was put on, a process nobody was looking forward to. The wrap on his teddy's leg is the same design as his splint. Carson of course, just wanted to play with the big tag on his ear. Since it has gotten to our house, Emma has volunteered to take care of the bear until Carson feels better.

Suburban For Sale

My in-laws have recently been called as mission Presidents to Russia and leave at the end of the month. They have an awesome Suburban that they are going to sell before they go - apparently shipping a Suburban to Russia is a little impractical. So if you or anyone you know is interested give them a call, it is a great car and perfect for a growing family and anyone wanting to tow anything - I am pretty sure it could tow your house away if you wanted it to. Below is a great description and some pictures.

This is a 1997 Chevy Suburban with 143ooo miles on it with a clean title, no accident and no mechanical problems. It has been very well taken care of with regular maintenance and very clean inside and out. It has great tires, fairly new brakes and a GREAT tow package. It seat 9 when needed and 8 very comfortably with a great trunk/storage in the back (as seen in picture). Mother's Day with Jason Mraz!

I know this is about a month late, but I only recently acquired these pictures from the only person prepared enough to bring a camera on a little vacation to Vegas!

A few months ago a couple friends and I discovered that Jason Mraz (our mutual boyfriend) would be playing in Vegas - not looking at the date, time, day of the week, we quickly purchased tickets and started planning a little Girl's Overnighter to Vegas.

After all was purchased and planned Jared pointed out that it was Mother's Day Weekend that we would be gone... opps! Then the calendar for that month started to be planned and we found out the same weekend was when my in-laws were asked to speak for the pseudo-fair well talk (they are leaving for Russia is 3 weeks)...double opps! Not to mention the show was at 11:55 pm on a Saturday (we only really saw Saturday when purchasing) and so the concert did go into the next day - we actually didn't put that together until Dr. Payne asked about it a few days before we left (one of his daughters came too and he was concerned for her salvations hehehe)...triple opps! BUT DON'T WORRY - three strikes doesn't mean your out, when your tickets were purchase and trip was planned FAR before anything else... so off to Vegas we went!

Melissa, Leanne and I left Saturday morning and road tripped down to Vegas - we took the van, so I had planned for movies and everything for our entertainment, but really we had a fun time just visiting the entire way down. It is amazing for all the time we spend together at work, we still had PLENTY to talk about for our trip.

We stayed at the Tropicana - getting there mid day with plenty of time to wander around Vegas (getting creeped out by Donny and Marie in the mean time), spend some money, donate to the Casinos (some of us were more charitable then others) and even take a dip in the pool (with some very yucky drunk Marines - that is all there is going to be said about that - they were YUCKY!!!).

Then after a great dinner (and dessert), we got over to the Palms (The Great and Spacious Building) and prepared for the whole reason for our visit - JASON!!!

Melissa and I (along with our friend Becky, who didn't come to Vegas with us) had seen him in SLC a few months ago and were waiting for another great performance... he did not disappoint!

There was plenty of amazing hip and leg action (he seriously is the SEXIEST dancer I have ever seen!), lots of great music and even special guests!!! Both of his duet partners were there to preform with him - including Colbie Caillat, who sings Lucky with him!!! It was amazing!

We really had such a great time - we were a little in over our heads when it came to lack of sleep though - the concert didn't even start until 1 am (Utah Time) and we didn't get into our hotel room until about 4 am (Utah Time). Apparently when you are pregnant - sleep is a NEED not a want, both Leanne and I are both pregnant, but we were troopers! Needless to say we were really tired the next couple days - BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!!!

What I learned from this weekend...

1) While driving in Vegas - look straight ahead and nowhere else, if you can't look straight ahead (for one reason or another - not to ever be mentioned again!), turn at the next block - there is simple nothing else to do!

2) While there are nice, pretty things in Las Vegas - it is not a vacation for families... not husbands, not sons, not daughters, nobody - bad!

3) If you are in a hot tub and 2 boys with tatoos and beer come to get in also - IMMEDIATELY excuse yourself and say you were just leaving... it will save you a lot of time and annoyance!

4) If you are in love with a famous star - do not "Google" or try to find out information about them, they are better in your head. They don't swear or smoke pot, they cut their finger nails and they eat whatever you want them too.

5) No matter how short the trip or how hard Jared laughs at my packing skills - three girls are going to fill up the trunk of a van with luggage!

Still after all the fun, I am so glad I went and shook my Baby Belly in front of the Las Vegas audience in the Palms!

Don't Tell Jared!

Every once in a while I lose my debit card - now is one of those times! I know why I do it - it is because I don't consistently put it back in my wallet and then it put it in my pocket or dump it into my purse and then it runs away because of neglect. Most of the time I find it in a pocket or in the depths of my purse in a fairly timely matter... but it has been a few days and I am starting to miss it.

I can't put "Missing" posters up, in fear that Jared will realize what has happened and then I will get "the talk" about responsibility when it comes to money and credit... I can recite it for you if you would like.

So if you are with me when I write a check or pay with change, now you know why. It isn't because I have been sucked back a decade, it's because I have lost one of my best friends - MY CARD!!!

Our Little Raw Vegan

This is what I call his "Jason Mraz Diet" (also a raw vegan) - I think Carson got the idea from him, cause he certainly didn't get the idea from any of us!

The last week or so Carson has not been wanting cooked foods. He will have a bite or two of whatever we give him - but he usually doesn't eat it all. So this is usually what he eats (and a variety of other fruits or veggies). He started this meal by working down 2 green pepper slices while I cut up the rest. Here he is eating watermelon, strawberries, cucumber and pear slices. He is so funny - he even prefers this over his old favorite - ANY CARB AVAILABLE.

Wait I should probably say - he still will eat Carbs (still loves his pancakes or waffles in the morning), he has not given those up altogether, he just prefers these - so don't worry, he has not gone totally over the "raw vegan" edge!

Murphy's Law Part 2

Two nights ago Jared and I stayed up way too late - the next morning Carson woke up at 5:50am crying so hard (I think the foot was hurting).

Last night I went to bed at around 11 (a little late, but okay for me), Carson and Emma still aren't up and it is almost 8.

BUT GUESS WHAT - I AM UP! You want to know why... my HUSBANDS PHONE ALARM went off in the kitchen at 6:30am, even though he fell asleep down stairs watching TV and doesn't have any meetings to get up for today! He came up stairs just as I had turned it off and said in a mumbled sleepy voice "sorry" (to say sorry for the alarm) as he passes me on his way to our bed - cause he can go right back to sleep with no problem. Me, on the other hand, tried to go back to sleep, because I was still tired, but apparently that is not in my genetic make up!

So there you go -
staying up late earns me early rising child
going to bed at a normal hour earns me no extra sleep because my husband is harassing me with his alarm!

Murphy's Law

Why is it on the days I slave over the house mopping and dusting, cleaning, vacuuming, doing the laundry - nobody comes over for me to show it off to. Then the days where I haven't done a thing and it SHOWS BIG TIME and I am asleep on the couch in my G's (yes, Heidi that is IT!), drooling all over my pillow - that is the day people stop by. Double ironic that on Wednesday when I was doing this, Heidi called to ask about scouts (who were going to show up in 10 minutes) and as I got off the phone with her I looked outside to see my Mother-in-law at the door... you know the most clean person on the planet... yeah that's her! :) I love it - could someone stop by one day after I have cleaned please, I do it often enough, chance should work in my favor - someday!

Our little gimpy...

Sunday morning (when Jared was out of town - OF COURSE), Carson started acting really funny. He is generally a very nice baby, especially at church, during Sacrament he either sits on my lap or plays with Emma and her "bookbag". This Sunday, he wouldn't let me put him down, he was whinny and grumpy and just all around not happy. He did take a super long nap, but I chalked it up to grumpy, tired and teething. That afternoon, I noticed he was walking a little funny and really didn't want to walk at all. He was favoring his right foot and when he would stand he would immediately take his weight off that foot. Monday it seemed to be getting better, he was walking more, but still a little whinny and in general kind of tender-hearted all day. Tuesday Jared started noticing his walking and to tell you the truth, that made me think - if he thinks it is something, it must be something (Jared seems to not catch on to the little changes and general things - so when he notices something, frankly it makes me worry! - I do love you honey, but it is true and all of your family who is reading this is totally agreeing with me right now.)

Anyway, Wednesday morning was his 18 month check up and I asked the doctor to check it out. The doctor immediately noted some swelling and asked if he would walk around at all. So Carson walked around for the doctor and showed him his cute limp. The doctor checked things out and said it wasn't broken, but he did have a sprained ankle! (I swear my kids take their vitamins and drink plenty of milk!) We are supposed to watch him for the next week and keep Tylenol in him, for any pain - that the doctor assured me he was in (oh how bad I felt then!). He said to make sure he is walking on it, but to limit the long walking and if he wants to be held, that is a sign it is "acting up" and to hold him or just keep him off of it for a little while.

My poor little baby! He is so dang cute and I have to say he has his "pimp limp" down pat! We are hoping this heals quickly, so keep him in your prayers. I hate having my kids (or any kids) in pain, especially the kind you can't really help.

PS: then today as I was moping the floor, Emma slipped a little on the wet floor and it hit me... I mopped the floor Saturday night and right after I finished mopping Carson walked on it and took a huge spill and I bet you anything that is when in happened. So guess what, I am not mopping anymore - for the sake of my children! :)

We sold our car!

Jared bought this car when he was single over 9 years ago! Little did he know he would drive his wife across the country (multiple times) in it, put his two babies in the back seat and have to finally sell it when he has his third! (He may have run screaming from the car if he would have known that future was in store)! It became my car the last couple years when he bought his Sonata and now it is April's car - the cute lady that bought it from us, I hope she enjoys! This car has been good to us, but it was starting to show its age and the back seat was not going to be enough for our growing family and so - good bye to our Altima! Lots of fun memories and trips in the little guy, but now, as with most things you leave behind... we are off to bigger and better things!

Retirement Party

Did all of you know Mike and Teri have been called to Russia as Mission Presidents. If not, they have been and leave in about 5-6 weeks - I can't believe it, what am I going to do without my great in-laws around. So because Mike can't work for the Alpine District and live in Russia, he is retiring! He has been in the district for 32 years! I can't believe that - it is a rarity to find such a loyal employee. I mean do you know anyone these days that stays with the same employer their whole career, I don't!

So to honor those that are retiring from the district they had an open house to come congratulate and wish luck to those leaving. There were a few others retiring, but Mike was "The Belle of the Ball" (as I called him), because most of the people came to see him. He is so well liked and known that he has made a real impression on the whole District (even though it often drive the family nuts - because we really can't go ANYWHERE without him running into someone who knows him and want to talk - even students he had 20 years ago recognize him and love to visit). Along with friends and colleagues, his brother John and his wife Shauna came down from Salt Lake and Teri's Uncle Dick and his wife Loye came to the reception. Our family was there also, along with Eric and Liz with David and Abi. It was a nice way to thank him for his hard work and I really was proud of him and all that he has done in his career. What was funny, is that he is proud of us too - many people I didn't even know came up to me and the kids and said how they recognized us from his pictures and how he loved to be a Grandpa... I love hearing that, it makes me love him even more!

We are so proud of you Mike, you are such a great Father-in-law and Grandpa - we are going to miss you both more then you can ever imagine!

I added a few extra pictures in because they were just funny. Carson quickly found the refreshment table and had a great time taking his pick of the yummy treats whenever I turned my back. The other photo is of he and Abi sitting next to each other, it made me laugh because she is so petite and his head looks HUGE next to hers! Isn't she so cute! I wish I had a better picture of her, because she had the cutest outfit on and she is just a little doll, you would all love her too!

Thanksgiving Point Barn Yard

I took the kids to The Thanksgiving Point Barn Yard the other day. It has been such nice weather and I was excited to get them outside for a little fresh air. We have been before MANY times, but we haven't been in a while and Carson is a little more aware of what he likes and dislikes now-a-days. He is more of a stand off-ish child then Emma is or ever was. He kept his distance from the animals at first but after watching for a while got the idea of which ones he was willing to get closer to. He did not like the donkey, every time he made a noise Carson would back up and come to me to be picked up. He did like the cows, I think because they didn't do much. He even petted the little calf (even though I didn't et a picture - sorry). We did get him on the horse ride, but he held on to my arm the entire time with a serious death grip, it was kind of funny. He didn't get to close to the goats and sheep, last time one "baaa-ed" really loud in his face and I think the memories quickly came back, because when one would come to the fence he would take steps in the other direction quickly.

Emma on the other hand, can't wait to go from animal to animal, seeing how many she can touch and pet. She absolutely loves the horse ride and sings her cow girl song the entire time she is on. The lady working the ride kept giggling every time Emma circled around. She also loved the goats, she got the baby to come over to her and she stayed by it for a while chatting it up and petting it's nose. She kept telling me that the baby loved her.

They had a great time and I did also. All I can say is Spring - keep it up! I loved being outside and enjoying the time with the kids!

New Recipe

Saturday I made a new recipe that I got out of my Pampered Chef Recipe Book (29 Minutes to Dinner). It is Sesame Crusted Salmon. I used the last of our Salmon from Alaska and got some ingredients from the store that I haven't used before - but really liked! Here you go! I know the salad looks a little silly, but our kids eat their veggies really well, if they can pick them up. I was really proud of myself, because I have a hard time trying new things. Earlier in the week I made Chicken Cordon Bleu - a great recipe I got from my sister-in-law Cammie. I am trying to be better at cooking from home and having dinner ready when Jared gets home (on the days I don't work). Wish me luck!

Rearranging

Recently Jared's parents gave us a twin bed from their house (they are making room to store things while they are in Russia as Mission Presidents). So Saturday Jared and I moved the furniture around to get Emma her new bed. Which meant we moved her crib, that was set up as a day bed, into Carson's room, which is where the baby is going to go. It was a little sentimental - it seems like only a little while ago that we were getting ready for her to come and sleep in that little crib. And now, It is crazy, are we really going to have another baby - #3? Do we really have TWO cribs in one room!? Two little ones and Emma!? Since we moved things around every time I go into "The Boy's Room" I feel like I am going to hyperventilate! I am in over my head!

On the other side of the wall, Emma loves her new bed! We went to Walmart and let her pick out a bed set and so, of course, we now have a Princess Bed. We still have some work to do, because she needs a bed skirt and a head board, but she doesn't know or care - she is in love it. She has even learned to make her bed and today after her nap she actually made it by herself, even folding her "tag" and putting it on her pillow like I showed her!

Our family is certainly growing and growing up ... when did this happen!

Tiny Dancers

Emma and Carson love to run around and dance. Emma has learned to get on our computer, get to itunes, go to "Emma's songs" and start them playing. Carson however prefers to waddle over to the ipod, point, do the "more" sign and start dancing. Either way, we spend a good part of our day dancing in the kitchen and living room. Our guests are not an exception to the rule, in fact they usually don't even have a chance, because my kids think they need to "entertain" those that come over, not to mention, with their cute little smiles, not very many people tell them no.

Carson Cuddling with Daddy

The other night poor little Carson was having a rough go. We didn't know it at the time (even though Jared called it), we found out the next morning he had a ear infection - poor little buddy! But he was so sad and wanted to be held in the funniest way, if Jared tried to adjust him, he would get mad, so he got what he wanted - bummy out and head shoved into Daddy's neck as far as it would go. It was a hard night, but he still was so cute! Don't worry after a quick visit to the doctor and a few helpings of antibiotics, he is back to his nice sleepy baby self and as happy as ever - thank goodness!

Carson's New Hobby

Carson is a climber! Emma wasn't a climber, so this is our challenge with Carson (Emma challenge is getting her to be quiet every once in a while).

He has learned to unlatch the dishwasher, open it and climb in. Originally he liked to just sit on the door and play with the dishes. Now he likes to stand up and get things off the counter or just look over to where we are and giggle, like he won (and he has). We are constantly telling him no and getting him down, but whenever we are out of the way he runs over there and gets in - it is so frustrating. We now have to keep our silverware out of the dishwasher until we are ready to turn it on and we have to empty it immediately, otherwise he will start unloading it for us. Do you love his face in the bottom picture - he is trying to be sneaky - so funny - he is definitely quieter then Emma - but he is a little more mischievous!

Emma's Homework

I am trying to start a little more educating for Emma. We have decided to not do a formal preschool this year, so I am going to get creative. Lucky for me my sister-in-laws (and sisters also probably, I just don't live close to them to find out) are very creative with their kids. Jill especially, her girls are super smart and I think she has to stay creative to keep them from getting bored - she is great!

This is one of her ideas - get a work book, whatever you want your kid working on and tear out the pages, place them in sheet protectors and use dry erase markers to work on it. This is a great idea, because those little work books are not cheap and Emma would just scribble through them in no time - this way she can practice as much as she wants and actually get better. Thanks Jill!

Here Emma is working on tracing some letters - she is getting better already - you can see how proud of herself she gets when it turns out how she wants - already kind of a perfectionist - so funny!

PS if anyone has any ideas for home preschool ideas - let me know please, I would love to hear everyone's suggestions!

I love it! We got it last night.

It is a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT Special Edition - it has power everything, DVD, sunroof, full stow-and-go, leather and everything I hoped to get in a car.

I love it. I love the way it drives, the way the seat warmers feel on my bum and I love the room between the kids and my seat, as well as how far they are from each other.

I can't wait to drive it more, because of all the snow and a sick little girl, we didn't get the drive time I was hoping for, but we have a PLENTY of time, because I am pretty sure this is my car for the next decade of so... wish me luck!

PS: Did I mention I love it!?

I have no pictures because we got it last night and it was raining, so that wouldn't work. So they are soon to come.

This just an announcement - I will no longer be grumpily waiting (I am not a patient person) - it is now here!

A Big Milestone!

It has taken about a year but I think (knock on wood that I am not jinxing myself) Emma is finally, totally and completely potty trained! She has gone the last week or so with nothing but her panties!

We started the last part of May last year - we had early success and thought it was going to be super easy, but then we went to Alaska for vacation, she did pretty well there, but when we got home she started regressing and it was like starting over. Then we went though all the weird stages... her being too busy playing to actually go in the potty, her going in the potty but a tiny bit in her panties first, then we went a LONG time (like 4-5 months or maybe even longer) when she was perfect in the day and even during her naps but then at night time she would use a pull up and wake up totally full. But the last week or so she just randomly started being dry at night, in the past when this has happen and I try the panties it's like she gets stage fright and goes that night. But after a few nights of a dry Pull Up we decided to give panties a try at night... IT WORKED!!! So we of course had a big celebration that morning and it has continued!

When I told Jared that she is officially potty trained, he thought I was silly because she really has been close to perfect (during the day) for a long time and he thinks that she has been potty trained for a while. But in my eyes there was still one more hump to get over and I think WE DID IT!!! Not a moment too soon either - we have done it in the past so I know we can do two kids in diapers, but three was NOT going to happen! So lucky for everyone that she finally got it before Baby arrived.

I think it is funny how every baby is so different - I mean my friend Janelle just blogged that her 17 month old (Carson's age) is starting to get interested in her potty and is being successful - Carson on the other hand we are still trying to find a good night time diaper he won't pee through - not to mention I don't even let him in the bathroom most of the time, because he likes to "play in the water". So to me it is even funnier how my kids love to be on the difficult side of that "different", but I will say that... it makes success even sweeter!

Good Job Emma Lou Lou - you are the best, my big girl!!!

Selling Our Car

We have finally out grown the Altima! We have recently purchased a MINIVAN!!! I am so excited - I know there are plenty of people who will freak out over the next comment, but... a minivan has been my dream car since before Jared and I were first married! We should get it Monday or Tuesday and I will post all the fun details about it then - I promise!

Until then - we are selling the Altima! So if you know anyone that is interested in a reliable, inexpensive car - send them to this post, it is also posted on Craigslist and KSL.

It is a 1997 Nissan Altima, it has 168500 miles on it and is has a manual transmission (stick shift). It has power locks, power windows, key-less entry, CD player and new front tires. It is a clean car inside and out. We have had it for about 9 years and it really has been great for us. I think it would be a great 1st car or family car! We are asking $2300 obo. Let me know if you know anyone who is interested!

Sleep Tight

One of my most favorite things to do is to tuck the kids in at night. I love sneaking into both of their rooms and covering them up with blankets, tucking them in and making sure they are comfy and perfect for their night sleep. They are so peaceful and quiet, which is not a usual state in our house.

Emma is always on her side, turned away from the door, most of the time she is hidden under the blankets (she sleeps like her dad), and she breathes deeply - not a snore but a cute deep breath. She is so sweet, sometimes when I go to bed early and I check too early, she will turn to me with her eyes closed, smile and tell me she loves me or good night, it is such a great moment after any long day.

Carson sleeps everywhere in his crib. Sometimes I find him with his head where his feet belong or curled up perpendicular with the crib instead of parallel. He makes me laugh. He usually doesn't have any blankets on him (because of his excessive moving) and so I cover him up, place his tag close by (in case he wakes up and looks for it) and turn down his white noise (I keep it louder when Emma is still awake and then softer through the night). He is such a cute little guy, but I really can see how big he is getting when I see him sleeping in his crib, it isn't this big space around him anymore... he is growing into the space very quickly. I love that little buddy!

I will say I have found it is not easy being pregnant with two little ones who need so much attention still. But I have some really awesome kids, who even after a crazy day of praying for me to keep my patients, still make it easy to be so in love with!

It's A .......

So today we went for our sonogram. The kids came with us and the party was on! We announced our final guesses to the Doctor (both of us thought "boy") and then he got started. We had a very detailed look at lots of funny angles. We took a few pictures, but no great ones of his face, he was hiding! Then down to "the area", and the first angle showed a site that made HIS father proud! Before the Doctor even announced the sex both of us giggled and joked, "well there he is!" We are going to have to work on modesty from the beginning with this guy.

Yup, we are having a Boy! We are very excited! We also think logistically a boy is a little better too. I think because Emma is a little territorial that it might be easier for Carson to share a room with the baby. Also, Emma is used to a boy so we didn't think any jealousy would come with another, but we weren't sure with a girl. Another thing is that this baby and Carson will only be about 20 months apart, so it might be nice for them to both be boys. We are really happy!

As for a name, we really don't have any yet. We really like to see our babies before we name them, so we have a while before we finalize anything.

So there is the news! Good job for all of those who guessed right!

I am sorry to tell you we are 0 - 3 nights on potty training.

Although if you want to look on the bright side we are 3-3 on her demanding before bed that she is a big girl and she wants big girl panties - not a diaper, 3-3 on waking me up to take care of her, 3-3 on sheet changes, and my accomplishment... 3-3 on me being patient and optimistic - I have decided because she is trying this on her own, I have not pushed it, that I will be positive no matter what the turn out - so she get's a "too bad, but good try" or "it's was an accident, you can try harder tomorrow" - I don't want her to think it is okay, but I do want to encourage her efforts. I did however, talk her into a pull up tonight with a promise that she could wear panties tomorrow night if she didn't go pee pee in her pull up tonight. We'll see.

PS: watch for tomorrow's post, we go in for the sonogram and hopefully will get to find out the sex of the baby!
