Midnight Sun

So apparently the manuscript was illegally distributed in the internet and now the book is on the "back burner"... I am so sad to hear this, especially after reading the part she posted... it is way good and I would love to get more! I hate when a few stupid people ruin things for a group - thanks!

Here is the article I read about it or you can get on stepheniemeyer.com and read her statement and also the portion that she released for the public.

*************************************************************************************

In a note posted to her official website Thursday, author Stephenie Meyer tells her readers she has decided to discontinue "Midnight Sun," her planned retelling of "Twilight" from the teenage vampire Edward's perspective, after an unfinished draft was illegally posted and distributed on the Internet without her knowledge or permission.

If I tried to write "Midnight Sun" now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on "Midnight Sun," and so it is on hold indefinitely.

Meyer had originally made the only first chapter available on her site. Because the project is now virtually killed, she's made the incomplete draft available as well, but cautions that "the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes."

I rather my fans not read this version.... It was only an incomplete draft.... But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available.... I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.

This has been a roller-coaster year for Meyer, who just completed a successful concert book series but has also had to answer for some of the backlash directed at "Breaking Dawn," the fourth and final installment of the "Twilight" saga.

The Uglies

So this is the next series I am reading.

The first thing I should tell you is that I sometimes "guilt" myself into reading things... after each of The Twilight series I wanted to talk about them with someone and everyone. Sometimes I even talked people into reading it, in my head, only so I had someone else to discuss it with. So now I have come back to get myself... whenever anyone says something like "as soon as you are done call me, I can't wait to talk to you about it," I know EXACTLY how they feel and sometimes read thing just because I was in their spot and remember their pain. Now don't get me wrong, I have loved most of the books I have read so far, but the original interest wasn't always there. So the girls at work decided that we would do a book club and this would be the first we read because they wanted to discuss it so bad... there you go, my trigger. Also, my good friend Reva also has been pushing me to read it for discussion purposes... I can't say no.

It took me a little to get into it, not as long as I had prepped myself and by the end, I was hoping for the next to be just right at had (which it is not until Monday). I will say that I kind of have "Twilight-itis" I am having a hard time falling in love with another couple, because they aren't Edward and Bella - I know I am ridiculous (I don't need every comment to this is second that), but I really have loved Twilight and the love connection between Edward and Bella, it was so passionate (I didn't say physical- so don't get worked up) that all others seem a little blah. I will say that connection and relationships (love and friendship) in Uglies are more believable and true to our life, as opposed to Vampire life - hahahah (the funny thing is, I KNOW how ridiculous I sound).

Anyway, if you haven't heard of this book, it is the next big thing... read it and let me know what you think. So far I have only read 1/4 in the series, but it is very clean, no cussing (if there was and I missed it, I am sorry), no make out stuff, just thought provoking story line with some true to life characters and a couple that does keep my interest and keeps me wanting to know more, even if they aren't Edward and Bella. Let me know what you think.

***Melissa, if you are reading this, do you have #2 I will trade you for the #1 I borrowed, tomorrow if possible! thanks! ***

We miss Andie!

Andie, one of Emma's cousins moved away a few weeks ago. Molly (Jared's sister) and Shawn (her husband), with the kids (Andie and Ali), moved to Athens, Georgia, for Shawn's Doctorate program. Today we got to chat on the web cam with her, it was great to see them. This wasn't the first time we have chatted since they've gone and Emma didn't even talk long, but she is now having Andie withdraws. So this is our Ode to Andie!

Andie is about one year younger then Emma and so when Andie was real little Emma didn't get to really take advantage of having a cousin to play with. As she got bigger the fun really began! Emma loves to play with all of her cousins - but Andie and David (shown in the picture of all three), have lived in the same area all of their short lives and have really become great friends! They love to chase each other around Grandma T's house, fight over toys and make lots of noise. Emma and Andie love to watch The Little Mermaid together and Emma calls it "Andie's movie". Since Andie has left both David and Emma ask for her whenever we go to Grandma T's house ... David (who is just 10 days younger then Andie) even got out the stroller (the toy they always fight over) and looked around to see if that would bring her out to play! We hope school goes by fast and we are back together really soon! We love you and miss you little Drew Bug!

Has it really been 10 years!?

This last weekend I took a trip to San Diego for an over night stay... to attend my 10 YEAR HIGH SCHOOL REUNION! I know what you all are thinking - she doesn't look a day over 22! I know, I know, it is amazing how time keeps going, but my face and body (especially my butt and boobs) just stay as they were a decade ago! I guess I am am just lucky! :)

Anyway, I called up my best friend from high school, Melissa to plan a big weekend together. It turns out that both of our husbands were more then fine with not going to the reunion. So it was her and I, along with another best friend Tracy, for a fun filled evening down memory lane.

Prior to the big event Melissa and I got our fingernails and toes done and spent most of the afternoon shopping for shoes, jewelry and other last minute items to finish off our cute outfits. It was nice to have just a day to not have kids around and just spend some nice time taking care of myself.

The reunion was at The House of Blues in The Gas Lamp District of San Diego. It was a nice club atmosphere with great music and some good food. There was also a fully stocked bar, that stayed extremely busy through out the night. Melissa, being 8 months pregnant and me, being, well me - drank Virgin Mai Tais. We got to visit with old friends, old boyfriends and old rivals. It was great!

It was a little odd because the faces all looked like people I knew well, but my memories didn't keep up with me. There was a lot of "How are you doing these days?", "where are you living now?", "are you married?" (Keep in mind this is not Utah and a lot of people were still single), "how many kids do you have?", "what are you doing for work?" ... and so on. The oddest was one of the guys I knew (Melissa's high school boyfriend's best friend), who was a major stoner - is now a pastor in Santa Barbara! His wife was there, pregnant with their 3rd or 4th ( I don't remember now). It was by far the biggest change of the decade!

I will admit after a while and a lot of alcohol consumption from the people around me, I did feel a little out of place. I was one of the more conservatively dressed people there and possibly the only non-pregnant sober one. There was a lot of nips, tucks and lifts all over the place, which made me look forward to after I am done having kids when me and a plastic surgeon will be best friends. :) By the end of the night I was glad it was over and that I was heading home in the morning. I don't regret going, I would have regretted not going, but I don't plan to attend my 20 year... I have officially moved on!

I flew home the next morning and was glad I had returned from the twilight zone and was back to reality!

San Francisco Here We Come!

Did you all know that we went to San Francisco last weekend? Jared and I took the kids on a quick trip to "The City" to celebrate with my brother and his new wife as they were married! It was a great weekend and a beautiful wedding. Jared has never been so I was way excited for him to see the sites! We spent Friday in San Fran going to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39. A nice addition to that day was that we were able to have lunch and hang out with my Aunt Diane, Uncle Tom, and cousins Jenny, Stephanie and her husband Tommy. They live all over now and so it was wonderful to be all together. We also went to the Golden Gate Bridge and saw some crab fishing... it was really cool and surprisingly easy! It made me think I could do it myself! Saturday was the wedding in Sacramento, the ceremony was outside and very hot! While they were saying their vows Emma turns to me and in her not-so-quiet voice says "Mom, my hair is very hot!"... it was so funny! During the reception we actually went swimming in the pool and got to cool off. After the reception we went to Old Sac, which is like an old western town. It was fun, but just a sightseeing and shopping place, so nothing major. The next day we went to Oakland and saw the Temple. I have been there before, but it was still wonderful. The Oakland Temple has a nice thing that you can actually walk up on the top of the Temple (like on the Conference Center in SLC). It was beautiful. After we went to the Visitors Center and saw the displays they had. One was an original Book of Mormon, it was like a chapter book, no verses, kind of different. Then off to the airport and on our way home. The plane trip wasn't long (nothing compared to Alaska) so the kids did great.

I will say that, as much fun as we have been having on our trips we are ready for a break. I want to be home with no plans and in our old routine... it seems like this summer has been swarming with activities - which have been so nice! I am just ready for some "laid-back" time.

I am back!

So in case you didn't notice I haven't blogged, emailed or even been online for a few days, but I am back. I finished Breaking Dawn this morning after a few LATE nights or even not-so-early mornings. I loved it and that is all I will say, it is still too early to discuss because so many have not finished. If you have finished let me know I would love to break it down with someone.

PS: a BIG thanks to Christine (my patient, pampered chef bud and friend) for always being finished early and ready to chat - I LOVE YOU!

Everyone else - get reading and call me when you are done!
